AB 3088 – Protections for Renters During Covid-19

The State of California passed AB 3088 on August 31, 2020. The law gives certain protections to renters that have experienced difficulty with rent as a result of Covid-19. California has published a webpage that has all of the pertinent information related to AB-3088.

However, in summary the law provides that if certain conditions are met by renters, their failure to pay rent cannot be a basis to evict them. The law has strict requirements, so please make sure to follow them strictly or else you may not be covered under its protections.

Once the conditions are met by the renter, the renter may be able to file bankruptcy and discharge the unpaid rent that has accrued as a result of covid-19 and still stay in the apartment.
